PDP Unveils Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo as Ogun Deputy Governorship Candidate for 2027 Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has officially unveiled Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo as its deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Sowunmi-Kolapo was presented as the running mate to the party's governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, during a ceremony held at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta. The event attracted party leaders, supporters, youth groups, women organizations, and other stakeholders from across the state.

Speaking after her unveiling, Sowunmi-Kolapo described her nomination as a call to greater service and pledged to work tirelessly for the development of Ogun State. She promised to support policies focused on economic growth, youth empowerment, quality education, healthcare improvement, and infrastructure development.

She also called on party members to remain united and committed to securing victory in the 2027 election through grassroots mobilization and voter engagement.

Adebutu praised his running mate as a competent and experienced leader whose selection would strengthen the PDP's chances at the polls. According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations within the party and reflects the PDP's commitment to effective leadership and inclusiveness.

He expressed confidence that the PDP would emerge victorious in 2027, promising that a future PDP administration would prioritize job creation, industrial development, improved infrastructure, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

The Ogun State PDP Chairman, Dr. Abayomi Tella, said the choice of Sowunmi-Kolapo demonstrates the party's determination to present capable candidates for leadership. He urged members to intensify efforts across all local government areas to ensure electoral success.

Sowunmi-Kolapo is a respected media professional, entrepreneur, and public affairs strategist with more than two decades of experience in journalism, communications, and public service. She previously served as Group Business Editor at The Punch and has held key leadership positions in both the media and political sectors.

Party supporters at the event described her emergence as a major boost to the PDP's campaign, expressing confidence in her leadership qualities and commitment to grassroots development as the party prepares for the 2027 governorship race.
