The Federal Government has launched a major initiative aimed at improving electricity supply in healthcare facilities across Nigeria, with a target of achieving at least 30 percent reliable and uninterrupted power in hospitals by 2027.
The programme, known as the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative (NPHI), is designed to address the long-standing challenge of power outages in healthcare facilities, which often disrupt medical services and affect patient care.
Speaking during the launch, government officials said the initiative will open up investment opportunities in the health power sector while encouraging partnerships between public institutions and private investors. The goal is to ensure that hospitals have access to stable and sustainable electricity needed to operate critical medical equipment and provide quality healthcare services.
The Ministers of Health and Power emphasized that reliable electricity is essential for improving healthcare delivery, noting that frequent outages have negatively impacted hospitals across the country for years.
Under the initiative, the government plans to support the deployment of sustainable energy solutions, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, and attract investments that will help modernize power systems within medical facilities.
Officials expressed confidence that the reform will significantly reduce electricity-related disruptions in hospitals and improve the overall quality of healthcare services available to Nigerians.
The launch of the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative marks another step in the government's efforts to strengthen both the health and energy sectors while creating a more reliable environment for healthcare delivery nationwide.
