The Director-General of the World Health Organization has announced plans to travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo to support health workers responding to a deadly Ebola outbreak.
He said the visit is aimed at strengthening coordination efforts on the ground as teams work to contain the spread of the virus in affected regions.
The WHO chief also expressed confidence that with the right response measures, the outbreak can be brought under control despite the seriousness of the situation.
Health authorities in DR Congo continue to battle rising cases, while international support efforts are being scaled up to improve surveillance, treatment, and containment.
The organization is expected to intensify its involvement as concerns grow over the spread of the disease in vulnerable communities.
