Russia Signals Cautious Optimism on Relations With the United States

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed cautious optimism about the future of relations between Russia and the United States, suggesting there may be another shift in diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Speaking during a joint press conference in Moscow alongside Madagascar's Foreign Minister Alice N'Diaye, Lavrov said Russia believes there could be a renewed change in approach similar to developments that followed previous high-level discussions between the two nations.

According to Lavrov, earlier understandings were reached based on agreements involving Russian President Vladimir Putin and proposals presented by the American side. He indicated that Moscow remains open to further diplomatic progress if conditions remain favorable.

The Russian minister also commented on the recent postponement of talks between the United States and Iran. He suggested that new obstacles may have emerged, adding that some parties may not be interested in seeing the negotiations move forward.

Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's support for diplomatic efforts and stated that Moscow remains available to assist if needed, particularly regarding discussions involving Iran's enriched uranium stockpiles and potential nuclear agreements.

During the meeting, N'Diaye emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Russia and Madagascar. She highlighted opportunities for deeper collaboration in key sectors including energy, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, mining, and education.

The talks reflect ongoing efforts by both countries to expand bilateral relations while Russia continues to pursue diplomatic engagement on several international issues.
