Serena Williams in Talks Over Possible Return to Tennis at Queen’s Club

Serena Williams could be set for a surprising return to competitive tennis as discussions continue over a possible appearance at Queen’s Club next month.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, who stepped away from the sport in 2022, is reportedly considering playing doubles at the WTA 500 grass-court tournament in London. Although nothing has been officially confirmed, Williams is now eligible to compete again after completing six months back in the anti-doping testing pool.

The event begins on June 8 and would serve as preparation ahead of Wimbledon, where Williams has enjoyed massive success throughout her career, winning seven singles and seven doubles titles.

Reports from the Served podcast hosted by former world number one Andy Roddick claimed that the American legend may team up with 19-year-old Canadian player Victoria Mboko. A wildcard entry would be required for Williams to participate, with two doubles wildcards currently available for the tournament.

Williams remains one of the greatest players in tennis history. Alongside her 23 Grand Slam singles titles, she also won 14 women’s doubles Grand Slam titles with her sister Venus Williams, as well as three Olympic gold medals in doubles competition.

Even after leaving the sport, Williams has repeatedly avoided using the word “retirement,” instead describing her exit from tennis as “evolving away” from the game. Her final match came at the 2022 US Open, where she lost in the third round to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic.

In recent months, Williams has also attracted attention for her fitness journey and weight loss transformation. She revealed in interviews that she lost over 14 kilograms through intense daily training, including running, cycling, walking, and stair climbing.

The Lawn Tennis Association traditionally reserves wildcard opportunities for British players, but officials have hinted that exceptional situations could influence decisions. With Serena Williams involved, many believe her potential return would bring major attention and commercial value to the tournament.

Meanwhile, her older sister Venus Williams continues to compete occasionally on the WTA Tour and has already played several tournaments this year.

Fans around the world are now waiting to see whether Serena Williams will make one of the most unexpected comebacks in modern tennis history.
