The United States has carried out fresh military strikes in southern Iran, escalating already fragile tensions in the region.
According to reports, US forces targeted a military site and drone operations in the Bandar Abbas area, which American officials described as a defensive action aimed at preventing imminent threats to US troops and maritime activity near the Strait of Hormuz.
Shortly after the strikes, Iranian forces reportedly responded with an attack on a US military base in the region, marking the most serious exchange of fire since a ceasefire agreement began in April.
The Iranian government has not released full casualty details, but state-linked reports claimed the retaliation was directed at facilities linked to the earlier US operation.
US officials, however, maintained that their strikes were limited and precautionary, insisting they were intended to protect international shipping routes and American personnel.
The latest exchange raises fears that the April ceasefire may be weakening, as both sides continue to accuse each other of violations while diplomatic efforts remain ongoing.
Global markets are closely watching the situation, especially oil prices, as the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical route for global energy supplies.
