VP Shettima Heads to G20 Summit in Johannesburg on Behalf of President Tinubu

Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Friday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. This development comes after President Tinubu postponed his own trip to the summit to receive further security briefings following recent incidents in Kebbi and Kwara states, underscoring the administration’s focus on domestic stability while engaging on the global stage.

The G20 Summit, hosted this year by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa—who also serves as the current President of the G20—will convene from Saturday, November 22nd, to Sunday, November 23rd, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. The event will bring together leaders from the world’s twenty largest economies, including representatives of the European Union, the African Union, and major international financial institutions, creating a platform for discussions on global economic growth, sustainable development, and international cooperation.

Vice President Shettima’s participation ensures Nigeria maintains its voice in critical discussions affecting both the African continent and the global economic landscape. Following the summit, he is expected to return to Nigeria to continue his official duties and brief the president on the outcomes of the engagements.
