Controversial singer Portable has fired a sharp rebuke at celebrity bartender Cubana Chief Priest, following the latter’s recent political warning to President Bola Tinubu. The spat erupted after Cubana Chief Priest cautioned that the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), could significantly damage Tinubu’s political standing in Nigeria’s south-east region.
Kanu, who has long been a polarizing figure in Nigerian politics, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday after being convicted on seven counts of terrorism—a verdict that has sparked widespread debate and reactions across the country. Following this, Cubana Chief Priest took to social media, predicting that President Tinubu “will never get up to 10,000 votes” in the south-east during the 2027 election if Kanu remained behind bars.
Portable, in a now-viral video response, accused Cubana of hypocrisy and questioned his motives in visiting the president. According to the singer, Cubana used his access to Tinubu primarily for personal gain and business contracts, rather than advocating for Kanu’s release.
“When you went to President Bola Tinubu’s office, you went to fight for your own self-interest. You didn’t remember to ask him to release your brother, Nnamdi Kanu,” Portable stated.
He also dismissed Cubana’s prediction about Tinubu’s electoral support, insisting that the south-east would still back the president. Portable highlighted what he sees as a contradiction between Cubana’s past actions and his current statements.
“You fought for what you wanted first, and now you are saying Tinubu won’t get votes from the South East? You’re joking. They will use money to get votes from your people, and your people will take the money,” Portable added.
In his pointed critique, Portable called out Cubana for prioritizing personal benefits over political advocacy. “You went to take pictures with the president, collected money, but forgot your brother who was in jail. Did you collect money and a contract or not? Who told you he won’t get votes? Tinubu will be reelected,” he concluded.
The exchange has since ignited a fresh wave of discussion on social media, with fans and critics weighing in on both Cubana Chief Priest’s political commentary and Portable’s sharp response, illustrating the volatile mix of celebrity influence and politics in Nigeria today.
