In a chilling incident that shook the quiet town of Ilaro in Ogun State, police officers have arrested a commercial motorcyclist, Godonu Lowe, for allegedly murdering his wife and trying to move her body out of the community in a sack. According to the Ogun State Police Command, the drama unfolded on Wednesday during a routine stop-and-search operation that quickly escalated into a full-scale criminal discovery.
Police operatives flagged down Lowe after noticing a suspiciously heavy sack tied to the back of his motorcycle. What they found inside was horrifying — the lifeless body of an adult woman, later confirmed to be his wife, showing signs of violent injuries, including bleeding around the neck. A blood-stained cutlass was also recovered from the scene, further fueling suspicion of foul play.
The arrest, made around 1:05 p.m., followed a credible tip-off received by the Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro. Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola revealed that officers acted immediately on the information, preventing what appeared to be an attempted disposal of the victim’s remains.
Following the discovery, Lowe was taken into custody while the woman’s body was transferred to the State Morgue in Ilaro for preservation and autopsy. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the tragic killing.
Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, praised the anonymous informant whose timely alert made the arrest possible. He encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing reliable intelligence with security agencies, noting that swift reporting often makes the difference between preventing and solving deadly crimes.
The shocking case has left residents stunned, highlighting the importance of community awareness and the ongoing fight against domestic violence and crime across the state.
