Bandits Strike Again in Kwara, Killing Farmers and Abducting Four

Another wave of violence swept through Kwara State as armed bandits launched a deadly attack on rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area — barely a day after a similar assault on a church in the same region. The attackers stormed the farmlands on Wednesday evening, right in the thick of harvest activities, catching the farmers off guard and leaving two dead and four kidnapped.

According to community sources, the assailants surrounded the farmers around 6 p.m. while they were gathering their crops. In a desperate effort to escape, some farmers tried to resist, leading to the tragic killing of two residents. The victims were laid to rest shortly after the incident. Out of the group working on the field, four were abducted, three attempted to flee, and one managed to survive with injuries.

Witnesses said the operation lasted several tense minutes before the attackers fled the scene, leaving fear and confusion behind. Locals lamented that the increasing insecurity in Edu LGA has pushed many farmers to abandon their homes and farmlands, especially during harvest season when they are most vulnerable.

Attempts to contact the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ojo Adekimi, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting, leaving residents anxiously awaiting official response and intervention.

The community now grapples with grief, uncertainty, and the harsh reality of a growing security crisis that threatens both livelihoods and lives.
