A survivor from the November 18 kidnapping at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, Kwara State, has shared a chilling account of how worshippers were ambushed, dragged into the bush, and held captive by armed men who openly bragged about controlling the entire area.
The victim, one of the 38 abducted church members later rescued by security forces — a rescue President Bola Tinubu confirmed on Sunday — recounted the nightmare during an interview with TVC. According to him, the attack began barely 30 minutes into the evening service. What initially sounded like electrical sparks quickly turned out to be gunfire as the attackers surrounded the church from all angles.
He described the moment fear took over the congregation: people rising to flee, only to realise the entire building had been encircled. Some even spotted blood on the floor as chaos erupted.
The abducted worshippers were marched deep into the forest — a territory the kidnappers confidently claimed as their own. The survivor said the gunmen proudly identified themselves as bandits and made it clear that no one could escape from their stronghold.
“They had full command of the place,” he said. “They knew every path, every route, every bush trail — not just around Kwara but extending into other states. From what we saw, escaping would’ve been impossible.”
His account paints a stark picture of how organized and emboldened the attackers were, turning a peaceful evening service into a scene of fear, intimidation, and survival.
