Defection Tension Deepens as Plateau Stakeholders Declare Loyalty to Governor Mutfwang — “Wherever He Goes, We Go”

A fresh wave of political realignment is sweeping across Plateau State as key stakeholders openly affirm their loyalty to Governor Caleb Mutfwang ahead of the 2027 elections. The strongest signal yet came from Mr. Dachung Musa Bagos, the immediate past member of the House of Representatives for Jos South/East Federal Constituency, who declared that the people of Plateau are prepared to follow the governor to any political platform he chooses.

Speaking in a recent interview, Bagos said the internal crisis tearing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) apart has left serious Plateau politicians uncertain about the party’s future. He pointed to the unresolved conflict between the Seyi Makinde and Nyesom Wike factions as a major threat to the party’s ability to function effectively.

According to him, while Plateau people have deep emotional ties to the PDP, the party’s sentimental value cannot guarantee electoral success in its current state. He raised a critical question that captured the disarray within the party: “In the PDP today, who is going to sign my form?”

Bagos noted that despite the PDP’s historical strength on the Plateau, the ongoing crisis has made it clear that loyalty to party structures no longer makes political sense. He said the 2027 elections will be decided based on candidates, performance, and credibility — not party logos.

He explained that if the PDP does not resolve its internal battles before 2027, politicians and voters across Plateau State will simply align themselves with Governor Mutfwang’s next move. The governor, he insisted, is the one unifying force that has earned massive goodwill from the people.

“We are so much in love with the governor,” Bagos declared. “Wherever he goes, we will support him. Loyalty this time is to the candidate, not the party.”

He stressed that for ordinary Plateau citizens, the political equation has become straightforward: Governor Mutfwang matters more than any party name. Bagos concluded with a firm message reflecting the mood across the state:

“The most important thing is for Mutfwang to be governor. Not PDP, not APC. Plateau wants Mutfwang, period.”

With 2027 drawing closer and PDP’s internal battles showing no signs of slowing down, Plateau politics appears set for a major shift — one that could redraw alliances and reshape the state’s political landscape entirely.
