Tuchel Defends Bellingham After Heated Exchange With Ghana Coach

England manager Thomas Tuchel has defended midfielder Jude Bellingham after he became involved in a heated exchange with Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz during England's goalless World Cup draw against Ghana.

The incident occurred shortly before half-time after Bellingham committed a foul on Ghana defender Jerome Opoku. Tensions quickly escalated as players and coaching staff from both sides became involved, with Bellingham needing to be pulled away by teammate Morgan Rogers as the confrontation continued on the pitch and toward the tunnel.

Despite the heated scenes, no disciplinary action was taken by the referee, and the match resumed without further incidents in the second half.

Speaking after the game, Tuchel backed his player, saying Bellingham was simply standing up for himself and his teammates. The England boss acknowledged that emotions are part of football but stressed the importance of staying focused on the game.

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz also addressed the incident, claiming Bellingham reacted poorly and used inappropriate language, which contributed to the disagreement.

The draw leaves England at the top of Group L and in a strong position to reach the knockout stage. A positive result against Panama in their next match will secure qualification for the last 32.

Bellingham, who became the youngest England player to reach 50 international appearances, played down the controversy after the match. He described the challenge as a "silly tackle" and said the situation became heated when Ghana's bench reacted strongly and appealed for a yellow card.

The 22-year-old also expressed respect for Queiroz, who previously worked at Manchester United, saying the exchange was driven by competitive emotions rather than personal issues.

Although Bellingham was named Player of the Match, he admitted he did not believe he deserved the award and suggested one of Ghana's defenders would have been a more worthy recipient after helping keep England scoreless.

The result serves as a reminder that England still have work to do despite their strong start to the tournament, while Ghana earned a valuable point through a disciplined defensive performance.
