Cristiano Ronaldo Makes World Cup History with Double Against Uzbekistan

Cristiano Ronaldo silenced his critics and made football history after scoring twice in Portugal’s dominant 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan at the FIFA World Cup.

The Portuguese captain entered the match under pressure following a disappointing opening-game draw against the Democratic Republic of the Congo. With other global stars such as Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe already making headlines with their goals, many fans were waiting for Ronaldo to make his mark on the tournament.

The 41-year-old responded in style, scoring two first-half goals to help Portugal secure a comfortable win and collect their first victory of the competition.

The achievement was historic, as Ronaldo became the first player ever to score in six different FIFA World Cups. He also surpassed Portuguese legend Eusebio to become Portugal’s all-time leading scorer at World Cup tournaments.

Portugal coach Roberto Martinez praised Ronaldo’s influence on the team, describing him as a role model both on and off the pitch. According to Martinez, Ronaldo’s relentless work ethic and determination continue to inspire younger players and teammates.

Despite suggestions that Ronaldo shouted “I’m back” as he left the field, Martinez insisted the veteran striker never lost confidence and remains one of the hardest-working players he has ever coached.

Uzbekistan coach Fabio Cannavaro, the former Italy captain who won the World Cup in 2006, also praised Ronaldo's longevity and professionalism. Cannavaro said defenders cannot afford to give Ronaldo even the smallest amount of space because of his ability to punish mistakes.

He added that Ronaldo's dedication to fitness and the game could allow him to continue playing at the highest level for several more years.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino also congratulated Ronaldo on the record-breaking achievement and wished him success for the remainder of the tournament.

The performance not only boosted Portugal's World Cup campaign but also served as a reminder that one of football's greatest goal scorers remains capable of delivering on the biggest stage.
