Ondo Police Arrest Six Suspected Cultists, Recover Weapons

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists during a targeted operation in Akoko South-West Local Government Area as part of ongoing efforts to tackle cult-related activities and violent crime in the state.

According to police authorities, the operation was carried out by the Special Anti-Cultism Squad following credible intelligence about suspected cult activities in Akungba and Iwaro Akoko communities. Acting on the information, security operatives moved into the area and successfully apprehended six suspects believed to be linked to unlawful confraternities operating within the region.

During the operation, officers recovered several items, including five battle axes, a jackknife, charms, and other materials allegedly associated with cult groups. The recovered items also included boots, yellow singlets, and face caps believed to be used by members of the group.

Police said preliminary investigations suggest the suspects may have been involved in activities that have contributed to growing security concerns in parts of the Akoko area. The command added that investigations are continuing to determine the full extent of the group's activities and identify other possible members.

Authorities confirmed that all recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence and that the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are completed.

The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and urged residents to continue providing useful information that can assist security agencies in combating crime across the state.
