Manchester City Agree Club-Record £116m Deal to Sign Elliot Anderson

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign midfielder Elliot Anderson in a deal worth a club-record £116 million, making it one of the biggest transfers in English football history.

The 23-year-old England international is expected to undergo a medical before completing his move to the Etihad Stadium. While Manchester City maintain the transfer fee is a fixed £116 million with no add-ons, other reports suggest the total value could rise to £130 million, potentially making it the most expensive transfer ever involving a British club.

Nottingham Forest had previously rejected two offers from City as they pushed for a higher valuation of one of their most influential players. The third offer finally convinced the club to approve the transfer, with personal terms between Anderson and Manchester City not expected to present any obstacles.

Despite the growing speculation surrounding his future, Anderson recently said his full attention remains on international duty with England. Speaking ahead of England's final World Cup group-stage match against Panama, he explained that he was focused on helping his country and had put all transfer discussions aside until after the tournament.

Anderson joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2024 for £35 million after Newcastle decided to sell him to meet financial regulations. Since arriving at Forest, he has made 88 appearances, scored four goals, and established himself as one of the Premier League's most consistent midfielders.

During the 2025–26 Premier League season, Anderson topped several key statistical categories, including total touches, possessions won, duels won, and fouls earned. His performances played a major role in Forest's campaign and attracted interest from several top clubs before Manchester City secured the deal.

With Anderson set to strengthen Pep Guardiola's midfield options, Nottingham Forest are already planning for life after his departure and are expected to sign two new midfielders during the summer transfer window.

The move represents another major statement from Manchester City as they continue to invest heavily in building a squad capable of competing for domestic and European honours.
