Nigeria’s Senate has officially confirmed former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), as the country’s new Minister of Defence after an exhaustive five-hour screening session on Wednesday.
The confirmation followed a detailed questioning process in which lawmakers examined his military record, national security strategy, and plans for addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and rising regional tensions.
General Musa, known for his frontline leadership in counter-terrorism operations, vowed to strengthen the nation’s defence architecture, improve troop welfare, and enhance coordination among the armed forces.
His appointment is expected to inject fresh momentum into Nigeria’s ongoing security reforms, with many analysts suggesting that Musa’s experience as a former CDS positions him to hit the ground running.
More updates are expected as he prepares to step into office and outline his defence agenda in the coming days.
