Bundesliga strugglers Mainz have parted ways with coach Bo Henriksen after a difficult start to the season, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The side sits at the bottom of the league table, having secured just one win so far.
Henriksen, 50, took over Mainz in February 2024 when the club was nine points adrift of safety. He led an impressive turnaround, losing only two of the final 13 games and guiding the team to a sixth-place finish—their equal best ever—securing a spot in the UEFA Conference League.
Despite these achievements, Mainz’s poor start to the current season prompted the decision to relieve him of his duties.
Mainz has long been a stepping stone for top coaching talent. Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp and current England boss Thomas Tuchel both began their careers at the club, while Bayer Leverkusen’s Kasper Hjulmand also started his Bundesliga journey in Mainz.
