Sanwo-Olu Proposes ₦4.237 Trillion Budget for 2026 as Lagos Assembly Nullifies LASPAA GM Nominee

The Lagos State House of Assembly has officially received a request from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, asking lawmakers to set a date for the formal presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill. The letter, read during plenary by the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, revealed that the governor is proposing a total expenditure of ₦4.237 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year — one of the largest budget plans in the state’s history.

The communication signals the beginning of a new budget cycle as the Assembly prepares to scrutinize and debate the proposal before passage.

In a separate development, the Assembly nullified the nomination of Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu as General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPAA). The decision followed the report of a 12-man Ad Hoc Committee led by Mr. Mojeed Fatai, which uncovered that Mrs. Adelabu had been operating in the role since 2021 without formal confirmation by the legislature.

The committee described her continued stay in office without Assembly approval as a violation of due process. Citing Section 92 of the Lagos State Transport Reform Law, the House ruled the nomination null and void, emphasizing the importance of proper legislative screening for all public office appointments.

Despite the nullification, the Assembly approved two other nominees. Mrs. Adeyemo Khadijat was confirmed as Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, while Mrs. Adepoju Adebajo was confirmed as Chairman of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).

Speaker Mudashiru Obasa praised the committee for what he called a diligent and transparent screening process. He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to accountability and ensuring that only individuals who meet established standards, and who respect legislative procedures, are entrusted with key government roles.

According to him, the House remains focused on promoting good governance and safeguarding the interests of Lagos residents through strict adherence to due process.
