Jos, Plateau State – The Plateau State Government has officially dismissed claims circulating on social media that Governor Caleb Mutfwang has defected to the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
In a statement released on Friday in Jos, Gyang Bere, the director of press and public affairs to the governor, described the report as “a blatant lie” and attributed it to “desperate mischief makers” attempting to mislead the public and create tension in the state.
Bere called the rumour a “poorly scripted fabrication” that would normally not merit a response. However, he stressed that clarifying the matter became necessary to prevent unsuspecting citizens from being deceived.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Mutfwang has not defected to the Young Progressives Party. Where and when there is any change in status, the Governor will use official and verified communication channels to inform the people of Plateau State and other well-wishers,” Bere stated.
He further emphasized that Governor Mutfwang remains fully committed to his current mandate, with a strong focus on implementing people-centred projects and key development initiatives across the state.
The government urged residents, supporters, and stakeholders to completely disregard the rumour and remain vigilant against politically motivated falsehoods.
“Under Governor Mutfwang’s purposeful and visionary leadership, Plateau State remains safe, stable, and steadily rising brighter, stronger, and more resilient,” the statement added.
Bere concluded by calling on the public to remain united in supporting the ongoing development of Plateau State, despite attempts by some to spread misinformation and sow discord.
