ABUJA – In a show of unity and resolve, 26 state chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have publicly expressed their unwavering support for the party’s newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki. The Forum of State Chairmen emphasized their determination to “soldier on” despite facing what they describe as calculated pressures, orchestrated hostilities, and institutional pushback against the party.
The statement, jointly signed by the Chairman of the Forum and Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, along with 25 other state chairmen, comes as the party adjusts to its new leadership structure following the National Convention held in Ibadan. According to the forum, the newly constituted 20-member National Working Committee (NWC) under Turaki represents a consolidation of leadership at a critical time when the party is navigating both internal tensions and external challenges.
“In the face of calculated pressures, orchestrated hostilities, and callous institutional oppressions, we reaffirm our unshakeable resolve to soldier on in defense of the enduring ideals of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement read.
The PDP state chairmen also highlighted the instrumental role played by party governors in stabilizing processes, particularly during the recent National Elective Convention in Oyo State. They extended special appreciation to Engr. Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, for hosting a seamless and well-organized convention, which they described as a cornerstone for the successful election of the new NWC.
Key figures within the PDP Governors’ Forum were also acknowledged for their contributions to party stability. Among those recognized were Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and forum chairman; Ahmadu Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State and Chairman of the Convention Organizing Committee; Caleb Mutfwang, Governor of Plateau State; Dauda Lawal, Governor of Zamfara State; and Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State. The forum credited their coordination and leadership for sustaining order during a period marked by political uncertainty and internal contestations.
The new National Working Committee officially emerged from the Ibadan convention, held from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, 2025, ushering in a new era of leadership with high expectations from both state and national party structures. As the PDP moves forward, the forum reaffirmed that the state chairmen remain committed to advancing the party’s ideals and maintaining unity across all levels.
