In a decisive move to strengthen safety within the state, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has begun enhanced patrols of boarding schools across Ondo. This initiative comes in response to growing concerns over security breaches and the rising threat of kidnappings in the region.
Commander Adetunji Adeleye of the Amotekun Corps, speaking from Akure on Tuesday, emphasized that full surveillance measures have been deployed to schools with boarding facilities, particularly those located in border towns and the outskirts of major urban areas. “In the last one week, we’ve visited numerous schools, installing rigorous surveillance across all boarding facilities,” Adeleye stated.
The commander explained that this heightened security is part of a broader strategy that includes the 24-hour “Ember month” patrols, which have been further intensified at state borders under the operation named ‘Operation Le Won Jade’, launched on November 6. The initiative focuses on safeguarding border towns and preventing criminal elements, including kidnappers and bandits, from exploiting forested and peripheral areas.
“Operation Le Won Jade has significantly deterred miscreants and criminal activities along our borders, while our continuous metropolitan patrols have also produced tangible results,” Adeleye noted. Over the past week, the Corps has conducted 34 arrests, 16 of which are being paraded publicly for various offences.
The commander reassured residents that all security agencies in Ondo State remain committed to ensuring the protection of lives and property. With these strengthened measures, schools, especially those with boarding facilities, can operate with a greater sense of safety, giving peace of mind to both students and parents alike.
