Malami Says EFCC Session Went Smoothly, Vows Truth Will Prevail

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, says his recent session with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) ended on a positive note, describing the engagement as “successful” and rooted in transparency.

Jumping on his X account in the early hours of Saturday, Malami revealed that he had been released after honouring the commission’s invitation and had already been scheduled for further interactions with investigators. According to him, the allegations trailing him—ones he repeatedly calls “fabricated”—would gradually be exposed for what they truly are.

Malami expressed gratitude, stating that the outcome of the meeting was a sign of divine intervention. He emphasised that he would continue to update Nigerians as events unfold, keeping everything open and accountable.

This EFCC invitation stems from ongoing scrutiny into corruption allegations levelled against him during his tenure as Nigeria’s top law officer under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2023. Ahead of his appearance, Malami had publicly announced his readiness to face investigators, stressing that honouring the EFCC’s summons wasn’t just a legal duty but a moral one.

He highlighted that principles such as honesty, integrity, and accountability were values he championed throughout his time in public service — and cooperating with anti-graft agencies only reinforces that legacy.

Malami also reassured friends, family, and the wider public that he remains committed to clearing his name, insisting that he has nothing to hide and is fully prepared to walk through the entire process with transparency.

With further engagements already set, Nigerians now watch closely as the saga unfolds, and as Malami continues to position himself on the side of accountability in the face of rising allegations.
