Reports of an alleged student abduction at St. Peter’s Foundation Secondary School, Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, have been officially dismissed by the Nasarawa State Police Command. Contrary to circulating stories on social media and some news outlets, no pupils were kidnapped on Friday, authorities confirmed.
The confusion reportedly began when students were on their way to the school field for Physical and Health Education classes and spotted armed hunters in the vicinity. Alarmed by the sight, the pupils fled in panic, mistaking the hunters for kidnappers. Teachers quickly intervened and escorted the students safely back to the school premises.
In response to the initial distress report, Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed deployed a joint team of police officers and military personnel to the area. Upon investigation, officials discovered that the “threat” was a misunderstanding: the students had encountered hunters carrying Dane guns, not criminals. Security forces thoroughly combed the surroundings, restoring normalcy and ensuring the safety of all students and staff.
The school’s proprietor confirmed that no abduction occurred, calling the alarm false. Police continue to monitor the area to prevent any potential security issues and have advised the public to disregard unverified reports. The command also urged media organizations to exercise caution and verify facts before publication to avoid spreading unnecessary panic.
Authorities emphasized that the circulating reports were baseless rumors and not representative of actual events, reassuring parents and the community that students are safe and under proper supervision.
