Cubana Chief Priest Warns Tinubu: Kanu’s Detention Could Cost You South-East Votes in 2027

Celebrity influencer and businessman Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has delivered a stark warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the potential political fallout of keeping Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in detention. The influential figure cautioned that prolonging Kanu’s incarceration could severely undermine Tinubu’s chances of securing votes in Nigeria’s South-East region during the 2027 general elections.

The warning comes in the wake of heightened tensions across the South-East following Kanu’s recent court appearance, during which his legal team renewed calls for his release and accused the Federal Government of unnecessarily extending his trial. The case has stirred widespread political and social debate in the region, with many community leaders and stakeholders insisting that Kanu’s prolonged detention remains a significant source of unrest and dissatisfaction, particularly among the Igbo population.

In a strongly worded post shared on his Instagram account, Cubana Chief Priest urged the President to recognize the heavy political cost of keeping Kanu behind bars. “President, as long as MNK remains in jail, you cannot and will never get up to ten thousand votes in the South-East come 2027. I will not lie to you. As a friend of your government, I have no reason to whitewash you,” he stated.

He emphasized Kanu’s central role in the region, highlighting that his detention has created deep-seated resentment and stalled meaningful political engagement. “MNK is the supreme leader of the South-East. His detention has caused us so much setbacks, and I am surprised that all your ministers from the South-East cannot tell you the truth because they are cowards,” Cubana Chief Priest remarked.

The celebrity also criticized political appointees from the region, claiming that their lack of credibility and influence prevents them from bolstering the President’s popularity among local voters. “None of them has the capacity to do anything that will make the people love and respect you. As for the governors, they will disappoint you because they have nothing meaningful to present to the people. Only MNK’s release can save you,” he warned.

Further cautioning against over-reliance on political officeholders, he noted that their influence over voters is limited. “The Villa is like a hotel. A few more days and the checkout time will reach. Only MNK can guarantee you real votes from the South-East,” he added.

Cubana Chief Priest also advised Tinubu to collaborate closely with Abia State Governor Alex Otti, whom he described as a credible figure with genuine sway in the region. He criticized the President’s decision to decline Otti’s invitation to commission projects in Abia, describing the move as detrimental to local goodwill. “I was surprised when you turned down his invitation to commission his projects in Abia, where MNK hails from, and instead sent an incompetent minister who has done nothing for us,” he noted, adding that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives had exacerbated tensions by “attacking our favored Governor Otti.”

These remarks from Cubana Chief Priest contribute to a growing chorus of political reactions following Kanu’s court appearance. Analysts have cautioned that the outcome of his case will continue to shape national political discourse and could play a pivotal role in influencing voter behavior in the South-East ahead of the 2027 elections.
