China Reaffirms Support for Nigeria’s Fight Against Terrorism, Rejects Foreign Interference

The Chinese
Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has reiterated China’s unwavering support for Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and maintain national security.

Ambassador Dunhai made this known in a post on his official X handle on Thursday following a high-level meeting with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

According to the envoy, China’s partnership with Nigeria has deepened significantly since President Bola Tinubu’s participation in the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and his subsequent state visit to China last year. He noted that the collaboration between both nations has continued to yield “fruitful outcomes” in key areas that support Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.

“As a comprehensive strategic partner of Nigeria, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people on a development path that fits Nigeria’s national realities,” Ambassador Dunhai stated.

Reaffirming China’s stance on non-interference in the domestic affairs of other countries, the ambassador cautioned against the misuse of religion or human rights as tools for imposing sanctions or justifying military actions.

“We oppose any country’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of religion and human rights. We oppose the wanton threat of sanction and use of force,” he emphasized.

Dunhai also assured that China remains committed to strengthening its cooperation with Nigeria in the area of security, particularly in intelligence sharing, counterterrorism strategies, and capacity building for Nigerian security forces.

He added that the partnership aims to promote peace, stability, and mutual prosperity, highlighting that the two nations share common goals of development and sovereignty free from external influence.

The renewed assurance from China comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing battle against insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges, as the government seeks stronger international partnerships to restore lasting peace across the country.
