In a surprising move that has stirred political conversations across the South East, the Abia State Government has sealed a campaign office affiliated with President Bola Tinubu’s political initiative, Renewed Hope Partners (RHP), located in Umuahia, the state capital. The RHP, which is being actively promoted across the South East by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, serves as a key campaign structure for President Tinubu.
According to an official of the RHP who spoke on condition of anonymity, the office was unexpectedly found sealed upon his arrival, with no prior notification or warning from the authorities. The office, situated on Ojike Street in Umuahia, had official notices affixed by the Ministry of Lands and Housing declaring the property in violation of the state’s tax regulations.
The notice prominently displayed on the office entrance cited contraventions of Sections 41 and 100 of the Abia State Tax Law (Codification and Consolidation), Law No. 7 of 2020. It explicitly warned that any attempt by the owner, occupiers, neighbors, or passersby to unseal the property would be considered a breach of the law. The message concluded with a stern directive to “Keep off.”
Efforts to obtain further clarification from the Ministry of Lands and Housing, including contacting the phone numbers listed on the official notice, were unsuccessful, leaving questions about the specific violations and the timing of the enforcement unanswered.
This development comes amid an increasingly tense political climate in the region, with the sealing of the office seen by some observers as a move that could have wider implications for political campaigning and party activities in Abia State ahead of upcoming elections.
