Asaba, Delta State — Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers during a fierce gun battle in a bush at Nniogbo Owa Ekei, Boji Boji Owa, Ika North East Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, describing it as a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping in the state.According to the statement, the operation followed credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Owa-Oyibu at about 11:00 am on September 17, 2025, that armed kidnappers were sighted in the area.
Acting swiftly, the DPO led a combined team of poli
cemen, vigilantes, and operatives of Operation Delta Sweep to the hideout. Upon sighting the security operatives, the suspects reportedly opened fire. The team responded immediately, engaging the kidnappers in a fierce gun duel.
During the exchange, two suspects sustained serious gunshot injuries and were rushed to Owa-Alero General Hospital, where they were later confirmed dead by doctors on duty.
Security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, 40 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, and two magazines from the scene.
The police command noted that a manhunt has been launched for other members of the gang who escaped during the operation.
